The Advisory Board Members of the South Mississippi Children’s Center (Shelter) is hosting the 4th Annual Wine Tasting and Auction to be held on Friday, October 1st, 2010 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at “The Venue” in the Bakery Building in downtown Hattiesburg. This event will debut this fully restored and beautifully decorated 9,500 sq.ft. event space.

This year’s event has been dubbed, Vines of the World.  Patrons will have the opportunity to taste ten different varietals hand selected by Certified Wine Educator, Don Kinnan.  A resident of Washington D.C., Mr. Kinnan is the Vice President of The Kobrand Corporation, founder of The Society for American Wines in Canada, and a member of the Board of Directors for The Society of Wine Educators.

Sample delicacies from Brownstones, Neal Catering, Walnut Circle Grill, Bianchi’s Pizzeria, 206 Front, Season’s, and more. Guests will enjoy the fun dance sounds of The Remnant’s, a favorite local band, playing 70’s 80’s, 90’s and today’s top music while bidding on premiere services and packages during the silent auction.  Event participants will end the night with a live auction that will include bidding on many one-of-a-kind items such as the night's wine selection, a chance to win a Five-Course Chef's Tasting Menu for six people at the Purple Parrot Cafe with a Wine Pairing donated by our favorite local celebrity Chef Robert St. John, plus you can bid on a week in Ireland at Father Pat’s family home overlooking the River Shannon, which is only 28 miles from Limerick City.

Donations for the silent auction are being accepted and tickets are on sale for $50 per person. All proceeds from this event benefit the South Mississippi Children’s Center (The Shelter), which is a program of Mississippi Children’s Home Services and is the local region’s only emergency shelter for children aged 9 through 17 serving the Coast to the Capital for over 30 years.
